Braver Than You Feel

You don't have to be fearless — you just have to trust the God who is with you.

Jesus with his hand on a young shepherd boy's shoulder in a sunny valley with a lamb.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; the Lord is with you.”

Joshua 1:9

Brave does not mean you never feel scared. Brave means you keep going — even with a shaky voice and a fluttery stomach — because you know you are not alone.

When God gave Joshua a huge job, He didn't say, “Don't worry, it will be easy.” He said something better: “I will be with you.” That is where real courage comes from — not from being tough, but from trusting a big God.

You might feel small in front of a hard test, a new school, a doctor's visit, or a bully. Jesus understands. He felt hard things too. And He promises to walk right beside you, every single step.

So the next time your knees feel wobbly, you can whisper, “God is with me.” You are braver than you feel — because your courage isn't about how strong you are, it's about how close He is.

Reflect

Let's think about it

  • What is one thing that feels a little scary to you right now?
  • How does it help to know God goes with you into scary moments?
  • What is one brave thing you could do this week while trusting Him?
Pray

A little prayer

Dear God, sometimes I feel afraid. Thank You that You never leave me. Please give me courage to do the right thing, and help me remember that You are right beside me. In Jesus' name, amen.

Live it out

Try this today

Name the scary thing out loud to God, then take one small brave step toward it today. Courage grows one step at a time.
