How to Be a Good Friend

Jesus shows us that real friends are kind, honest, forgiving, and there when it's hard.

“A friend loves at all times.”

Proverbs 17:17

Everyone wants a good friend. But here's the secret: the best way to have good friends is to be one. And the very best example of a friend is Jesus.

The Bible says a real friend loves “at all times” — not only when it's easy or fun, but also when things get hard or boring or sad. That kind of love takes practice.

Being a good friend looks like small, everyday choices: be kind, really listen, cheer others on, stay loyal, and forgive when someone messes up. Jesus did all of these for us, and He helps us do them for others.

You don't have to be perfect to be a great friend. Just keep showing up with kindness — and let Jesus' love for you overflow to the people around you.

Reflect

Let's think about it

  • Which part of being a good friend is easiest for you? Which is hardest?
  • How has Jesus been a good friend to you?
  • What is one way you could be a better friend this week?
Pray

A little prayer

Dear Jesus, thank You for being the best friend I could ever have. Help me be kind, honest, loyal, and forgiving to my friends. Let Your love flow through me. Amen.
