Joy That Lasts

Happiness comes and goes, but the joy of knowing Jesus stays through every season.

“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you.”

John 15:11

Happiness is a wonderful gift — ice cream, a snow day, a good game. But have you noticed that happy feelings don't last very long? Joy is different. Joy has deep roots.

Jesus said He wants His own joy to be in us. That's not a joy that depends on a perfect day. It's a joy that comes from being loved by God and belonging to Him — and that doesn't melt like ice cream.

The Bible also says “the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). When hard things come, this deep joy can hold you up, because it's built on something that never changes: God's love for you.

So enjoy the happy moments — they're gifts! But plant your heart in Jesus, where joy grows strong enough to last through every season.

Reflect

Let's think about it

  • What's the difference between being happy and having joy?
  • Where does lasting joy actually come from?
  • What is one thing about knowing Jesus that gives you joy?
Pray

A little prayer

Dear Jesus, thank You for happy gifts — and thank You for a joy that goes even deeper. Fill my heart with Your joy so I can stay strong even on hard days. Amen.
