Saying Sorry, Starting Fresh

Because Jesus forgives us, we can forgive others — and let go of grudges.

Two girls making up under a tree beside a chalkboard checklist about starting fresh.

“If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come.”

2 Corinthians 5:17

Everybody messes up — that's part of being human. The good news is that with God, a mistake is never the end of the story. There's always a way to start fresh.

When we've hurt someone, saying a real “I'm sorry” takes courage, but it opens the door to healing. And when someone hurts us, holding a grudge only makes our own heart heavy.

The Bible tells us to “be kind and forgiving, just as God forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32). We can forgive because we have been forgiven first. Jesus wiped our slate clean, and He helps us offer that same fresh start to others.

Forgiving doesn't mean pretending it didn't hurt. It means letting go and choosing peace. With Jesus, you don't have to carry old grudges — you get to begin again.

Reflect

Let's think about it

  • Is there something you need to say sorry for?
  • Is there someone you're finding it hard to forgive?
  • How does knowing God forgives you make it easier to forgive others?
Pray

A little prayer

Dear Jesus, thank You for forgiving me and giving me a fresh start. Help me say sorry when I'm wrong and forgive others when they hurt me. Make my heart new. Amen.
