He Is Risen!

NEW TESTAMENT · EASTER
Storybook illustration of the risen Jesus with arms open wide and a joyful smile outside the empty tomb with its stone rolled away, sunrise light shining and three crosses on a distant hill.
Luke 24 ⏱ 3-min read-aloud

This is the most important story of all. Jesus, who loved us so much, gave His life for us — but that was not the end.

01

A very sad day

Jesus was put on a cross and died. His friends were heartbroken. His body was placed in a tomb, and a large stone was rolled in front of the doorway.

02

Sunday morning

Early on Sunday morning, some women who loved Jesus went to the tomb to care for His body. But when they arrived, the big stone had been rolled away!

03

The empty tomb

The tomb was empty — Jesus was not there! Two shining angels said, “Why are you looking for the living among the dead? He is not here. He has risen!”

04

Jesus is alive!

It was true — Jesus was alive again! The women were filled with joy and ran to tell the others the wonderful news: “He is risen!”

05

Hope forever

Jesus had beaten death itself. Because He lives, everyone who trusts in Him can have new life and a hope that lasts forever.

⚓ The big truth

Jesus died to take away our sin, and He rose again on the third day. Because Jesus is alive, we can have joy and hope forever.

⚓
Hold fast — memory verse

“He is not here, but is risen!”

— Luke 24:6 (WEB)

Try saying it out loud three times to help it stick!

Talk about it

  1. How do you think Jesus' friends felt when they saw the empty tomb?
  2. Why is “He is risen!” the best news ever?
  3. How can knowing Jesus is alive give us hope?

Let's pray

Dear Jesus, thank You for loving me so much that You died for me and rose again. Thank You that You are alive! Help me trust You and share this good news. Amen.

Try this at home

Practice the Easter greeting: one person says “He is risen!” and the other answers “He is risen indeed!” Say it with a big smile.
