Daniel loved God with his whole heart. He prayed three times every day — morning, noon, and night. Even in a faraway land, Daniel stayed faithful.
A man who loved God
Daniel worked for the king, and he did his job so well that the king wanted to put him in charge of everything. But some other men were jealous of Daniel.
A sneaky plan
The jealous men couldn't find anything wrong with Daniel, because he was honest and good. So they made a trick. They asked the king to make a new law: for thirty days everyone must pray only to the king — or be thrown to the lions!
Daniel keeps praying
Daniel heard about the new law. But he loved God too much to stop praying. He went home, opened his window toward home, and prayed to God — just like always. He was not afraid to do what was right.
Into the lions' den
The jealous men told the king. The king was sad, because he liked Daniel — but the law could not be changed. So Daniel was placed in a den full of hungry lions, and a big stone was rolled over the door. The king couldn't even sleep that night.
God shut the lions' mouths
At the first light of morning the king ran to the den and called, “Daniel! Was your God able to save you?” And Daniel answered, “My God sent His angel and shut the lions' mouths!” Daniel wasn't hurt at all, because he trusted God.
A happy morning
The king was overjoyed! He lifted Daniel out, safe and sound. Then the king told everyone in the whole land to honor Daniel's God — the living God who saves and rescues.
⚓ The big truth
God is with us when we do what is right, even when it's hard or scary. We can keep praying and trusting Him, no matter what. God takes care of those who love Him.
“My God sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths.”
— Daniel 6:22
Try saying it out loud three times to help it stick!
Talk about it
- Daniel prayed every day. When are some good times for you to pray?
- Daniel did what was right even when it was scary. When is it hard to do the right thing?
- How did God take care of Daniel? How does God take care of you?
Let's pray
Dear God, help me be brave like Daniel. Help me keep praying and doing what is right, even when it's hard. Thank You for always being with me. Amen.
Try this at home
Pick three times to pray today — morning, noon, and night — just like Daniel. Say a short “thank You” to God at each one.
