A huge crowd followed Jesus to hear Him teach. The day grew long, and everyone was getting hungry — thousands of people!
A hungry crowd
More than five thousand people had come to listen to Jesus. It was getting late, and there was no food. “Where can we buy bread for all these people?” the disciples wondered.
One boy's lunch
A boy had brought a little lunch: five small loaves of bread and two fish. It didn't seem like much for such a big crowd — but he was willing to give it to Jesus.
Jesus gives thanks
Jesus took the loaves and the fish, looked up to heaven, and thanked God. Then He began to break the bread and share it with everyone.
Enough for everyone
The food kept coming and coming! Everyone ate until they were full — all five thousand people. It was a wonderful miracle.
Nothing wasted
Afterward, the disciples gathered the leftovers — twelve whole baskets full! Jesus took one boy's small gift and did something amazing.
⚓ The big truth
When we give what we have to Jesus — even something small — He can do big things with it. Your small gifts matter to God.
“Give, and it will be given to you.”
— Luke 6:38 (WEB)
Try saying it out loud three times to help it stick!
Talk about it
- The boy shared his lunch. What is something you could share?
- How did Jesus turn a little into more than enough?
- What “small” thing could you give to God or to others this week?
Let's pray
Dear Jesus, thank You that no gift is too small for You. Help me share what I have with a happy heart, and please use it for good. Amen.
Try this at home
Find one thing you can share today — a snack, a toy, or your time helping someone — and give it cheerfully, just like the boy shared his lunch.
