One evening Jesus and His friends got into a boat to cross the lake. Jesus was so tired that He fell fast asleep.
Into the boat
After a long day of teaching the crowds, Jesus said, “Let's cross to the other side of the lake.” He and His disciples set sail as the sun went down.
A sudden storm
Without warning, a wild storm blew in. The wind howled and huge waves crashed over the boat. Water began to fill it, and the disciples were terrified.
Jesus is asleep
But Jesus was in the back of the boat, sound asleep on a cushion! The frightened disciples woke Him, crying, “Teacher, don't You care that we're going to sink?”
“Peace! Be still!”
Jesus stood up and spoke to the wind and the waves: “Peace! Be still!” At once the wind stopped, and the sea became perfectly calm and quiet.
Who is this?
Jesus asked, “Why were you afraid? Where is your faith?” The disciples were amazed and whispered, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey Him!”
⚓ The big truth
Jesus is more powerful than any storm. When we are scared, we can trust Him. He is always with us, and He cares.
“Peace! Be still!”

Try saying it out loud three times to help it stick!
Talk about it
- What kinds of “storms” (scary or hard times) can happen in our lives?
- What did Jesus do that showed how powerful He is?
- What can you do the next time you feel afraid?
Let's pray
Dear Jesus, thank You that You are stronger than any storm. When I feel afraid, help me trust You and remember that You are always with me. Amen.
Try this at home
Next time you feel worried, take a slow deep breath and say, “Jesus, help me trust You.” Draw a little boat on calm water to remember His peace.
