God had promised a Savior for a long, long time. One special night in Bethlehem, that promise came true.
A long journey
Mary and Joseph traveled to the town of Bethlehem. Mary was going to have a very special baby — God's own Son. But the town was crowded, and there was no room left for them to stay.
No room but a manger
The only place to rest was where the animals were kept. There, in a humble stable, baby Jesus was born. Mary wrapped Him snugly and laid Him in a manger — the box where animals eat.
Good news for shepherds
Out in the fields, shepherds were watching their sheep. Suddenly an angel appeared, shining bright! “Don't be afraid,” the angel said. “I bring good news of great joy. Today a Savior is born — He is Christ the Lord!”
Heaven celebrates
Then the whole sky filled with angels praising God: “Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth!” Heaven was celebrating the newborn King.
Come and see
The shepherds hurried to Bethlehem and found Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus, just as the angel had said. They were filled with joy and told everyone the wonderful news.
⚓ The big truth
God kept His biggest promise by sending Jesus — the Savior — as a tiny baby. Jesus came for everyone, even shepherds. He came for you.
“A Savior is born to you, who is Christ the Lord.”
— Luke 2:11 (WEB)
Try saying it out loud three times to help it stick!
Talk about it
- Jesus was born in a humble stable. What does that show us about Him?
- The angel called it “good news of great joy.” Why is Jesus good news?
- How could you share the good news about Jesus with someone this week?
Let's pray
Dear God, thank You for keeping Your promise and sending Jesus. Thank You that He came for me. Help me share the good news with joy. Amen.
Try this at home
Make a simple manger scene with blocks, toys, or a drawing, and use it to tell the Christmas story to someone in your family.
