Genesis 6–9 ⏱ 4-min read-aloud

Long ago the world had forgotten God. But one man still loved and obeyed Him — his name was Noah.

01

A man who loved God

People everywhere were doing wrong and had forgotten God. It made God very sad. But Noah walked with God and did what was right.

02

God's big plan

God told Noah to build a giant boat called an ark — bigger than a house! God had a plan to keep Noah's family and the animals safe. Noah trusted God and got to work, even though it had never rained like that before.

03

Two by two

When the ark was ready, God sent the animals — two by two, big and small. Lions and lambs, elephants and mice, birds and bugs all walked up the ramp. Then God shut the door.

04

The rains came

The sky opened and rain poured down for forty days and forty nights. Water covered the whole earth. But inside the ark, Noah's family and all the animals were safe and dry, just as God promised.

05

Waiting on God

For many days they floated and waited. Noah sent out a dove to look for dry land. It came back with a fresh green leaf — the water was going down! Soon the ark rested on a mountain, and everyone stepped out onto dry ground.

06

The rainbow promise

Noah thanked God. Then God painted a rainbow across the sky. It was a promise: God would never again flood the whole earth. Every rainbow says, “God keeps His promises.”

⚓ The big truth

God is faithful — He always keeps His promises, even when we have to wait. The next time you see a rainbow, remember: God is always true to His Word.

⚓
Hold fast — memory verse

“I set my rainbow in the cloud, and it will be a sign of a covenant between me and the earth.”

— Genesis 9:13 (WEB)

Try saying it out loud three times to help it stick!

Talk about it

  1. Building the ark took a long time. When is it hard for you to wait?
  2. Noah obeyed God even when it was hard. What is one way you can obey God this week?
  3. What do you think of now when you see a rainbow?

Let's pray

Dear God, thank You that You always keep Your promises. Help me trust You, even when I have to wait. Thank You for keeping me safe like You kept Noah. Amen.

Try this at home

Draw a big rainbow and hang it where you'll see it. On each color, write one thing you can trust God for.
